United Way We Give!

I would like to send out a big atta boy to all of our solicitors for the United Way Campaign. What a great job you all did. There was a lot of enthusiasm and smiles during the campaign as always. Each of you responded by giving over $140,000!! I am very proud of how important QPP employees are to this community and how every year you all step up and show the true spirit of QPP employees. Thank you to each one of you that contributed to our campaign.

We processed a lot of hogs on Saturdays this fall. I believe that be winding down come January. WE will have a couple of partial Saturdays in December. Good news is that we will have a nice three day weekend for Christmas.

Our safety program continues to be strong. Accidents remain low, but as you all know one is too many! We can never take a break when it comes to safety. Please continue to help each other be safe.

We are still hiring new people. We have been fairly successful and our numbers are up. This makes everybody’s job easier when we are staffed properly. Our recruiting program is in place so it is a good way to earn a little extra. So if you know anyone looking for a good job and free healthcare, send them our way!

BALANCE FOR GOOD HEALTH

It is December and the weather is COLD and the holiday season is upon us. The Quality Health and Wellness clinic encourages good mental health. 

“Balance” for Stress Management

Balance is a buzzword often used to describe the act of effectively navigating your schedule.  An optimally balanced schedule allows for sufficient amount of time for both responsibilities and personal pleasures. When life gets thrown off balance sometimes routine demands can be perceived as harder, overwhelming and more stressful.  This can cause the positive aspects of life to be overshadowed or forgotten.

Some signs of being worn out or unbalanced include ill health, anxiety due to stress, migraines, insomnia, depression, and health issues such as high blood pressure.

As a result, your productivity can slow because of feeling stressed and not being able to concentrate on the task at hand.

 What can you do to boost your balance and get high on happiness?

~Balance At Work

Try a Brain Break.  Take a few minutes to pause from daily work tasks by deep breathing, listening to music or gazing out the window.

Take a Wellness Walk.  A quick stroll during the work day may help you to re-charge, manage stress and release emotional pressure.  Studies demonstrate a strong link between physical activity and mental health.

Prepare for Casual Collision.  Your water cooler chat or coffee talk with co-workers is a casual collision. 

~Balance At Home

Participate in Pleasurable Activities or Hobbies.  Join a group activity, try yoga or a massage, play a pick-up game, watch sports, go fishing – participate in something just for fun.  Participating in activities for just pure pleasure may influence your mental outlook in a positive way.

Volunteer.  Giving to others, albeit energy and time- consuming, may contribute to a greater sense of purpose for people, which might, in turn, positively influence health and help others. 

Social Support.  Spend time with family, reconnect with friends or seek out professional support if needed.

Howdy to all!

I would like to take the opportunity and talk about slips, trips and falls.

One of the leading types of accidents in any workplace and home setting is falls. Such a simple thing but yet we all seem to take for granted simple ways to avoid these type of accidents. Use hand rails whenever possible. Do not be texting or trying to get something done while you are walking up and down stairs. Look where you are walking as there can be obstacles big and small. Slippery surfaces can be seen if you are looking. Being in a hurry to get to break a minute early makes no sense when you jump out into an isle where there is work saver and forklift traffic. Getting run over or hit will make that extra minute seem extremely silly! We all need to slow down and pay attention. Remember when we did not have phones? Well they are a huge culprit in everyday hazards. Stop and take the time to do it right. One final mention:

“Better to lose a minute in life than your life in a minute!”
