Hello Everyone

For it being the middle of February you wouldn’t know it by how warm it has been. Weather forecasters are saying that it’s like mid to late March weather. I like it, but I’m hoping it isn’t the calm before the storm as we head into spring time.

We completed a couple of projects over the weekend, one being the conveyors installed on the processing floor. We will be doing some more work on that again this weekend to make adjustments so that it works and flows better. It isn’t working as planned so that is in the works. We won’t have a lot of time with the plant working on Saturday. But they will get right at it after we’re done processing on Saturday. Another project was to add a chute at the end of the loin boning line to take away the throwing of boneless loins into the vat. That will make it much easier on the person performing that job. And make it a little safer for the people working there because those on the work saver won’t have to get in there to remove the vat. Also the other reason was to take a look at a different layout on how we can do the denuded loin operation a little more efficiently.

We will be working this Saturday Feb. 18th processing 10,500 hogs and cutting close to 15,000 to clean a cooler bay. The next scheduled Saturday is the Saturday after Easter. We will have to come in and cut hogs again here in the next month to finish our cooler cleaning.

As by now everyone knows about the tragic passing of Mike Langen. Mike was a long time employee; he worked at QPP for 27 years, 7 months and 1 day; passing just one day before his 59th birthday. Mike was a great guy and will truly be missed around here. In remembrance of Mike, we will be stopping the production lines on Friday at 1:00 pm for a moment to reflect on Mike’s life.

Remember always keep safety at the top of the list whether at work or at home. Sometimes it’s more important than we think and we may not get a second chance!

Heart Health Awareness

February is National Heart Month, which is a great time to make sure your ticker is tickin’ properly.  We’ve all heard it; change your diet, maintain a healthy weight, be physically active, quit smoking, limit your alcohol, manage your stress, get enough sleep.  Can this advice REALLY help you lower your cholesterol and improve your heart health?  YES!  Making small changes in your daily routine can add up to big benefits and help you live a healthier, more balanced life.  For every 30 minutes of exercise, you increase your life expectancy by 2 hours!  Physically active people save an average of $500 a year on healthcare.

Signs and Symptoms of a possible heart attack to NEVER ignore.

Chest Discomfort.  Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back.  It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.

Discomfort in other areas of the upper body.  Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.

Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.

Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheartedness.

The Quality Health & Wellness Clinic is open from 8-5 M-F and 8-12 Sat.  If you have any questions regarding your cholesterol or how to improve your heart health please stop into the clinic today or call to make an appointment.

Hello Everyone!

I am so pleased to announce the incredible participation by many in the HOBS Hazard Report program. The last “wheel of fortune” spin to employees netted them almost $800 in less than 1 hour. We will be spinning again in the next couple weeks so you still have time to find some hazards and turn in a HOBS report. Remember....for every HOBS submitted you get to spin for each one. The benefits are removing hazards that could affect others and you so there is no reason to not participate. If you need help writing down the information simply ask for help. A supervisor or safety committee person will gladly assist. Someone asked me the other day what would happen if they scratched off a ticket and won $10,000.00. My response was that person would be $10,000 dollars richer! QPP is committed to everyone’s safety and we are happy to reward everyone who participates in the program.
